More than just a cannon

Perspectives, justification, culture, interpretation. These are but a few of the important aspects of literature.

Literature shouldn't just be what is written in front of you, it should go far beyond, it should make connections with what you have experienced in the past, what you might experience in the near or distant future. This is part of the reason why we study literature.
Literature ultimately is defined not by what someone tells you, but rather by what you find it to be and what you find the meaning of a piece of writing or an image to be. Literature shouldn't be taken literally, but instead one should read in-between the lines, think about what the author felt whilst writing it. At the end of the day, it gives you a different perspective to think about, this could either bring different communities together or tear them apart.
Furthermore, you should also consider what kinds of texts are literature, should they be limited to just texts from famous authors such as Shakespeare or should they include authors such as Dan Brown and Tom Clancy as well.
I, for one, believe that it is important to also take into regard what authors have written who aren’t as famous as Shakespeare or Charles Dickens. They could bring a new perspective on a similar theme and could make you reconsider your current stance on that particular topic. You should also not forget the importance of thinking about further possible thematic connections the author has created, rather than simply taken what is written on the page for granted
