Think?! Why collaborate

In my opinion, the most important norm of collaboration that lead to my team’s success was putting ideas on the table. The reason I think this was the most important was because when we were creating the project we all came up with different and creative ideas, and many different ways to solve problems, and in the end I believe that was the aspect which most lead to my team’s success.

I believe that in my life the person who represents the norms of collaboration the best is my uncle. The reason why I believe this is because each time we talk about something, no matter what the subject, he always considers what he is saying, pauses, poses questions, he often puts new ideas on the table, he pays attention to the others involved in the discussion, he usually provides data to help in the discussion and always has a positive way of thinking.

The norms I most want to use when collaborating are posing questions and putting ideas on the table. The reason I chose these two norms is because when one poses questions then the affect of original statement is usually positive and the final product/result could be improved and in extreme cases the questions completely changes the way the group think about what they are doing and approach it from a brand new angle. The second norm I chose was putting new ideas on the table, the reason for this is that when everyone puts together ideas, the end result could be much more creative than if only one person has an idea and then that idea would be executed. If many people gather new ideas and share them it could have a very positive influence on the final product/result.

The Done Manifesto in my opinion can help you with creative work as it helps you understand that there is always more that one can do. The example pictured on the website would be the rubrics cube, it proves that when you’ve completed it, it becomes boring, however when you still have to finish it off then you can do something with it. Rule number 7 enhances the idea that there is always more that one can do, the fact that when you are done with something to throw it away or start over as there might be a better and more efficient way to do this, this is also very true in the case of the rubrics cube, when one has completed it, it’s boring and it is much more interesting to undo the final product and start over. The Done Manifesto helps your brain approach things from a new angle and shows you that you can never be completely done with something, as there is always a chance to improve on what has been created.

The song my group has chosen was the theme from ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', the link to the theme song is here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI-YR4LBzLO. The theme which my group was exploring in this exercise was maturing and breaking away from the protection offered by parenthood. I would like to thank Anna for contributing to the groups final output and offering interesting ideas throughout the project.
